We prune by what we call selective pruning. This type of pruning is to preserve the natural habit of the shrub or tree. We thin and direct the growth of the shrub or tree so that the natural look is maintained. We do not use a hedge trimmer to prune. That is not the correct way to prune. We prune by hand using the correct tools to accomplish a particular desired result. That desired result is to maintain the shrub or tree in the location that it is planted, and the size that it will become at maturity. Shrubs that are hedge trimmed repeatedly will not flourish and will eventually go into to decline the older it becomes.
